The Stooler: Make Your Own Stool

Ever just really wanted to sit down, but couldn’t find anywhere halfway comfortable to pop a squat? Whether it was a long day at work, a solid workout, or you sheer boredom of standing, we all know the feeling, and we all know how little fun it is.

Well now with The Stooler, you don’t have to worry about such predicaments.

The StoolerThe Stooler, designed by Andreu Carulla Studio, consists of four wooden legs, and some ratchet straps, and it allows you to turn just about anything into an object to sit on. Pretty revolution idea if you ask us!

Check out The Stooler website here for more pics and to get one of your own.

The Making of Aeron Chairs

Pretty cool video (from Fast Company…no surprise there) showing us the manufacturing process of the famed Herman Miller Aeron chair.

Did you know that a new Aeron chair rolls off the assembly line every 17 seconds? Who knew you could make such a quality product in that short of a period of time? Only Herman Miller.

Enjoy!

Vintage Eames TODAY Show Footage

We always love to share great videos with you, and we certainly love to share videos of anything Eames. Today we bring you some pretty amazing and rare footage of a television interview with Charles and Ray Eames.

The interview took place on the TODAY show in 1956 and was centered around the debut of their iconic furniture line, particularly the Eames lounger and ottoman.

Not only is it cool to see vintage footage such as shit, but it is also a rare glimpse of Charles and Ray, who have almost become God-like figures in the design community.

Enjoy today’s video because we certainly did!

Herman Miller Aeron Chair

Who else, besides yourself, knows when you are or are not comfortable? You’re the best judge of your comfort, so if you were designing a chair that you would want to sit in all day long wouldn’t you want to like it for yourself? We’re hoping the answer is “yes.”

Bill Stumpf was a legendary Herman Miller designer and when he designed the Aeron chair, he used his own body to be the judge. In today’s fast-paced design industry, it’s easy to forget about your own comfort.

Watch today’s video and you’ll see what we mean:

670/671 by Eames Demetrios

We’ve brought you videos of the Eames lounge chair before, and we’ve also brought you videos of Charles and Ray Eames’ grandson Eames Demetrios, but would you  mind if shared some more of both with you? We didn’t think so.

Today we’re sharing a video by Eames Demetrios showcasing the manufacturing process of an Eames lounge chair and ottoman, accompanied with some awesome commentary. It’s also very cool to see people who actually put the chairs together enjoy them as much as they do.

Enjoy!

Disappearing Geometric Chairs

A-Cute table

A-Cute table

London design firm AndViceVersa has come up with a very cool idea for a table and chairs, especially if your space is a premium.

What looks like a simple geometric sculpture is actually a set of table and chairs. The table and chairs are made of laser cut metal pieces, which are then welded together.

The set is available in 4, 6, or 8 seat options, and the great thing about it is that when it is not in use it is a true piece of functional art.

Mattiazzi Branca Chair

In the world of industrial and furniture design nature can sometimes be forgotten or go unnoticed, so it is definitely refreshing to see furniture that is inspired by nature.

The Branca chair by Mattiazzi is inspired by branches of a tree that twist, turn, meet, and branch off. Not only are these chairs great to sit in, they are absolutely beautifully designed pieces of furniture and are definitely aesthetically appealing. The craftsmanship that goes into these chairs is one of the reasons they are so amazing.

Check out the video of the making of these awesome chairs. It’s definitely worth the ten minutes.

Jeff Weber and The Embody Chair

It is definitely hyperbole, but technology has revolutionized the work place. However, that same technology has absolutely wreaked havoc on workers’ posture, and overall has had a net hindrance on their health.

While technology often forces us into uniquely uncomfortable and unhealthy positions, there is hope with the Embody Chair by Herman Miller. The Embody Chair literally has movement built into it, which allows the user to adjust their posture while still allowing for their regular productivity.

Watch the video below to learn more about the Embody Chair:

The Spun Chair

Well, happy Friday! It’s the end of another workweek, so we just wanted to share this video with you:

It’s pretty funny to see the folks at Herman Miller (did anyone spot Steve Frykholm, one of the Why Design recipients?) test the Spun chair by Magis, especially since you have to tell yourself that you’re not going to fall backward.

With that said..have a great weekend!

Yves Behar and SAYL

Some of the greatest designers in the world do work for Herman Miller, and Yves Behar is no exception. He is one of the most noteworthy and recognizable designers of today, and most certainly a good one at that.

We found this video on YouTube of Yves speaking at Cusp 2011 about Herman Miller’s SAYL chair and some of the design process behind it. From the original concept, along with some bumps in the road Behar and Herman Miller were able to create an amazing product. Now stop reading and watch the video!
