Why Design Sam Hecht & Kim Colin

This week’s installment of Herman Miller’s Why Design series is probably our favorite. Industrial designer Sam Hecht and architect Kim Colin are a husband and wife team who opened the London-based firm Industrial Facility. While Hecht and Colin are great compliments to each others’ style, their perspective on design, and its innate processes, are extremely unique.

Hecht and Colin explain their different approaches and how their micro-versus-macro perspectives are nurtured by their chaotic hometown.

Check out the video; you will not be disappointed:

Why Design Steve Frykholm

Steve Frykholm is a cool guy. That is probably quite obvious since Herman Miller devoted an installment of their Why Design series solely to him.

Steve is a Creative Director at Herman Miller and has been there since 1970. That is certainly sometime to be proud of. Aside from being the first in-house graphic designer – and a good one at that – Steve is very truthful about his success and failures as a graphic designer.

Frykholm is a truly unique individual, and one of those people who we’d all love to meet one day.

Until then, check out his video:

Why Design: Gianfranco Zaccai

In the latest installment of the Why Design series by Herman Miller, designer Gianfranco Zaccai is showcased. Zaccai is a unique designer and co-founder of Boston-based design firm Continuum.

While Zaccai has designed noteworthy consumer goods and retail environments, he is probably most famous for designing Herman Miller’s groundbreaking and award-winning Compass healthcare system.

Did we mention that Zaccai is a foodie too? Check out the video to find out more!

In the latest installment of Herman Miller’s Why Design series, they sit down with Irving Harper.

You may not be familiar with Harper’s work, but he is actually behind some of the most iconic designs of the 20th century, like the Marshmallow sofa, and the Ball clock. Few know that he was actually the designer behind the Herman Miller logo..chew on the for a second!

Check out the video; as usual with everything from Herman Miller, it’s great.

Why Design: Don Chadwick

In the latest installment of Herman Miller’s Why Design series, designer and photographer Don Chadwick is showcased.

Don is truly a unique individual who is talented beyond recognition. He was even a co-designer of the comfortable, and iconic Aeron chair along with Bill Stumpf.

The video about Don is very self-explanatory, so see for yourself:

Don is frankly a very cool guy with a unique philosophy and a unique perception of life.
