A Terra Cotta..Grill?

Summer is unfortunately winding down, and for those of you who don’t live in a year-round warm climate, you face the annual decision of what to do with your barbecue grill. If you’ve got a nice, expensive setup its a no-brainer to buy a grill cover and/or store it in your garage. If your grill is nearing the end of its lifespan, or its a “cheapy” then you can just pitch it, no biggie. If your grill doubles terra cotta planter then you can put a plant in it.
Yes, you read that correctly. The Hot Pot by Black+Blum is a terra cotta planter, that is also a grill.

Very inconspicuous if we must say.

Whoever thought of this idea certainly came up with an awesome one. While you probably can’t fit a feast on the grilling surface of the Hot Pot, but it’s definitely just an overall cool idea. I wish we would have heard about this at the beginning of the summer!

The Moveable Garden

Normally at Workplace Resource we like to share designs and ideas for workplace, healthcare, or educational applications, but the Fractal Garden is just too cool.

The Fractal Garden is an idea thought up by Andrea Legge, Deborah Lewis, and Murrary Legge, who are avid artists and architects. The idea behind the Fractal Garden is that “pieces” of diamond-shaped planters are fabricated on wheels so that they can be moved and situated as desired.

Not only are the pieces fabricated in differing shapes, but they are also available with a variety of different plants contents. The polygonal planters can be arranged in clusters, and their possible creations are literally endless. With the Fractal garden you can express your interests for both gardening and geometry!

This arrangement, with its different shades of green, definitely plays tricks with your eye.

Frankly, the Fractal Garden is a cool idea, and incredibly creative. While its pieces have not been made available to buy, you can still appreciate them visually.

Five Simple and Green Office Tips

At Workplace Resource we are pretty straight forward people. We absolutely love to help you. We love everything about being green. We love workplaces (obviously). We love providing you with tips to make your workspace and workplace more comfortable.

With that said, today we are bringing you green office tips. Though they might seem too simple, and you may have heard some of them before, you should try and accomplish all of them before end of this week.

  • Be mindful of overused lighting. If you’re going to be out of your office/workspace for more than 15 minutes, it’s worthwhile to shut the lights off. Moreover, invest in higher-efficiency light bulbs which will use less energy, which also means cost reduction.
  • Don’t be afraid to shut off your computer. When you’re leaving work shut your computer completely off and unplug the power strip it’s connected to. If you are in and out of your office throughout the day, set your computer to go to sleep when you’re not using it. This can save you loads of energy; up to 70% savings per year.
  • Recycle as much as possible. This one may seem simple, but be mindful of just simply throwing trash in the receptacle under your desk. Even electronic equipment like batteries and computer monitors can be recycled and/or reused. Talk to your office manager about recycling electronics.
  • Reconsider your commute. Don’t be afraid to use public transit when possible, or even ask coworkers to carpool. This can be great because it actually puts money back in your pocket. The more people who carpool together, the more money you save.
  • Invest in foliage for the office. Having plants in the office is not only visually appealing, but they also absorb indoor pollution.

If you use these tips not only will your workplace be greener, but you’ll probably end up feeling better yourself knowing that you are doing your part for the environment.
