Hill House

If you’ve ever been to Melbourne, Australia (which most of you probably have not) you may have noticed that many of the houses there reside on small, narrow lots. Designers in Melbourne are often faced with the challenge of trying to build on these less-than-large lots, and Andrew Maynard Architects is no different

However, what is different is one of their recent designs; Hill House. Hill House features a man-made hill and synthetic grass, aside from the absolutely beautiful and simple architecture inside the house. Melbourne is also a relatively flat region, so now the owners of this awesome house have their own hill to use.

Mimicry Chairs by Nendo

If you’re a fan of design, then you’re probably a fan of Japanese design specifically. If you’re a fan of Japanese design, then you’ve probably also heard of the design studio Nendo. As part of the London Design Festival’s Landmark Projects Nendo designed their mimicry chairs and sporadically placed them throughout the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Japanese designer are notorious for having a unique approach to their art  and applications, and the individuals at Nendo are certainly no different.

Check out this video by Crane.tv for the idea behind the Mimicry Chairs.

Sit Better

We always want you to be comfortable, so today’s message is no different.

It’s simple, when you are comfortable you work better. For most of us, we are sitting while working and this is where our problems start. There’s nothing wrong with sitting back in your chair and using its full support. Moreover, you need to know what your chair is capable of so that you can utilize its full potential.

It is important to know that there are correct and incorrect ways to sit. Check out this video from Herman Miller about how to sit, and why it’s important.

After watching that video, are you fully satisfied with your work chair?

Herman Miller Special Edition Eames Table

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ray Eames Herman Miller is releasing a special product; the Wire Base Low Table.

Ray Eames was a truly revolutionary designer, and we think its great that Herman Miller has decided to pay an ode to her with such a simple, yet, frankly, cool product.

The tables will be available in mid October in three colors.

The Philosophy of Mark Goetz

Mark Goetz is a great designer. He designs products and solutions for Herman Miller, and is even responsible for the Goetz Sofa.
While every human being has a unique way of solving problems, Mark is certainly no different. Instead of looking for a solution as an end to a problem, Mark likes to become very familiar with the problem, thereby allowing him to use it as a solution in itself. It’s a very positive mindset and is certainly responsible for some of the amazing furniture that Mark design.

Check out this video about Mark and his design philosophy and maybe it will make more sense to you:

Less is More With Canvas Offices

Today’s workplace is less about physical presence, and more about technology, connection, and sustainability. To use a cliche phrase, less is actually more.

For example, at Workplace Resource we are proud to sell canvas office landscapes. Instead of being tethered to your desk like a traditional employee, canvas offices allow workers to harmoniously interact with their surroundings, which makes for an overall more enjoyable (and hopefully more productive and efficient) experience.

Check out the canvas office page here.

Don’t forget, less is more. Just like this blog post.

Why Design: Don Chadwick

In the latest installment of Herman Miller’s Why Design series, designer and photographer Don Chadwick is showcased.

Don is truly a unique individual who is talented beyond recognition. He was even a co-designer of the comfortable, and iconic Aeron chair along with Bill Stumpf.

The video about Don is very self-explanatory, so see for yourself:

Don is frankly a very cool guy with a unique philosophy and a unique perception of life.

As more installments of the Why Design series become available we will happily share them with you.

Abak Environments

Something that is sometimes overlooked in terms of office furniture is the common desk. We probably use it the most out of all of our furniture; we work on it, eat on it, maybe even sit on it. Yet, most people are content with pretty much anything.
Herman Miller produces the Abak system, which is more than just a desk, but an environment. The Abak environment is unique because it can have numerous applications within the workplace.

The Abak system can function as a stand-alone desk, or even be integrated into a wall or linear unit. The picture above is only one of limitless combinations of the Abak system. Not only does the Abak system help you to work better, but it looks great too and can fit in with any workplace design. Its sleek design and minimal profile make it a great looking piece of office furniture.

Fjelborg Design Is Minimal, Functional

Fjeldborg Design is a Copenhagen-based design studio who is bridging the gap between design and functionality. They have a very simply philosophy in that they want to incorporate a piece’s function into its actual physical structure, instead of building around the structure. This makes for minimal, yet visually-appealing products.

Pictured above is the Vaeg Light. If you notice, the cords and sockets are actually part of the products’ design, which is consistent with with their design philosophy.

For more of their great products, visit the Fjeldborg website here.
