Kansas State Olathe Campus

Kansas State University is one of the more forward-thinking universities in the United States today. They are also research leaders in the fields of animal health and food safety. So when K-State decided that they wanted to furnish their new, state-of-the-art Animal Health and Food Safety Institute at their Olathe campus they turned to another leader of their respective industry; Herman Miller.

K-State’s vision for their new institute included spaces which could be used for a variety of activities. The institute features classrooms, conference rooms, faculty offices, and public spaces. This brought about a unique situation in terms of furnishings, but Herman Miller was certainly up to the task, and the institute stands presently as part of the thriving K-State educational system.

Herman Miller Envelop

Herman Miller is probably best known for their chairs, and rightfully so. There is not much debate about the comfort and versatility of their chairs, but Herman Miller didn’t just stop with these chairs.

The Herman Miller Envelop system is a cool idea (obviously). While we have come to expect our desk chairs to be adjustable,  has anyone thought of a work desk that does the same?

Herman Miller designed the Envelop system with ergonomic principles in mind; with it, you, your computer, your chair, and your desk all work together to promote a more comfortable and healthy workstation!

Sit Less = Feel Better

It’s probably safe to say that you are sitting for a majority of your work day. It’s also probably safe to say that you get quite a bit of work done while sitting, and since it’s 2012 you’re probably getting most of that work done on some sort of computer. Well, we are here to tell you that all of that is bad for you. Take a few minutes to check out this video by Herman Miller and you will understand what we mean.

At Workplace Resource we are striving to make the workplace more comfortable, and more efficient, but some of that starts with you. So, listen to your body’s messages, and be conscious of these messages. In turn, you will be a better, happier employee.

On average, how many hours a day are you seated?

Work-Life Support Provides Organization-Wide Benefits

It is quite the understatement to say that we live in a world brimming with technology. Technological advances have provided us with rewarding healthcare, business, and social applications, but they have also come at a high price. It is almost impossible to not be connected these days, and that is exceedingly true for business professionals. Today, it’s very easy for the lines between your personal and professional life to become blurred.

The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index collects data on emotional and physical health, productivity, healthy behavior, and the overall work environment, and has been doing so since 2008. The index data for 2011 indicate that worker’s attitudes toward the work environment are unfortunately at an all time low.

These low results have prompted key organizational decision-makers to implement changes; an emphasis on the importance of environmental flexibility, flex time, and group health initiatives are now being emphasizes like never before. Overall, senior mangers and executives want their employees to feel that their employer cares about them. Organizations are finding out that by providing work-life support they are positively influencing their company’s growth, profitability, brand, and level of employee engagement. Truly a “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” scenario.

Overall, the message is that if you provide your employees with beneficial, healthy initiatives they will in turn work harder, and better for you as an employer.
