360° Desk Lamp

The 360° Lamp by Bongo Design get its name from its function. It can literally provide light in all 360 degrees (big surprise, huh?).

360-Lamp-short-by-Bongo-Design-2The minimalist design of the lamp looks cool with its powder-coated metal rod, and its lighting source which is made out of a single block of wood. The lamp is also available in two sizes (short and tall), and has a textile wrapped cord.

SUESSLICHT Industrial Lighting

Voxel-Suesslicht-Sugar-3Take a look at the lamp above. It looks pretty standard, doesn’t it? It’s simple design is actually pretty appealing, and with its choice of different color textured cords, you could probably integrate it with just about any type of room. Well, this simple little lamp is actually made of……..sugar.

In the past we brought you an edible desk lamp, but today’s lamp is different. The lamp-shade is made of sugar crystals that are dissolved into water, then pressed into shape. Moreover, some light does make it through the shade, and when it does, the shade gives  it a shimmer effect. The lamps are produced by German design group Voxel Studio, and are a pretty awesome idea.

Reducing Energy Consumption With New Lightbulbs

Let’s be honest, if there are two things that we all want to use less of, it’s probably money and electricity. It’s pretty simple too; use less electricity, and you pay less money for it. You can start using less energy by simply swapping out the light bulbs around your house. You’ll actually probably be amazed at the savings that you see.

Not only is it a great idea to switch out your light bulbs for more energy efficient ones, but by 2014 all incandescent light bulbs will be phased out, so you’ll literally be forced to buy newer, more efficient ones. Why not get a head start on everybody else? If simple economics hold true as well, you’ll probably save some money on the actual purchase of the bulbs to, since demand is not nearly as hight as it will be in the future.

Here’s a cool video from InHabitat about changing the light bulbs in your home. It’s easy, and you’ll end up loving the monetary savings!

Olab by Grégoire de Lafforest

Olab is a lamp design thought up by interior designer and architect Grégoire de Lafforest. Although it does indeed serve a purpose, it’s the lamp’s appearance that makes it so special.

The lamp is made of plywood of walnut, lacquered steel, and blown glass which gives it the appearance of a balloon. While the lighting element is out of sight, it functions by squeezing the bulb-like pump handle.

A very cool lighting piece that is both functional and fun to use.

Five Simple and Green Office Tips

At Workplace Resource we are pretty straight forward people. We absolutely love to help you. We love everything about being green. We love workplaces (obviously). We love providing you with tips to make your workspace and workplace more comfortable.

With that said, today we are bringing you green office tips. Though they might seem too simple, and you may have heard some of them before, you should try and accomplish all of them before end of this week.

  • Be mindful of overused lighting. If you’re going to be out of your office/workspace for more than 15 minutes, it’s worthwhile to shut the lights off. Moreover, invest in higher-efficiency light bulbs which will use less energy, which also means cost reduction.
  • Don’t be afraid to shut off your computer. When you’re leaving work shut your computer completely off and unplug the power strip it’s connected to. If you are in and out of your office throughout the day, set your computer to go to sleep when you’re not using it. This can save you loads of energy; up to 70% savings per year.
  • Recycle as much as possible. This one may seem simple, but be mindful of just simply throwing trash in the receptacle under your desk. Even electronic equipment like batteries and computer monitors can be recycled and/or reused. Talk to your office manager about recycling electronics.
  • Reconsider your commute. Don’t be afraid to use public transit when possible, or even ask coworkers to carpool. This can be great because it actually puts money back in your pocket. The more people who carpool together, the more money you save.
  • Invest in foliage for the office. Having plants in the office is not only visually appealing, but they also absorb indoor pollution.

If you use these tips not only will your workplace be greener, but you’ll probably end up feeling better yourself knowing that you are doing your part for the environment.

Diamond Lamps

Designer Sebastian Scherer brings us Diamond, which is a series of lamps, which each have 12 facets. Not only are the lamps aesthetically pleasing, but they also play a trick on your eyes.

Diamond lamps

While the hexagon-shaped lamps are available black, white, copper, and chrome, they are only manufactured in one size. But that’s alright, because depending on the angle they are viewed at, the lamps appear to vary in size. The Diamond series is yet another example of impeccable design which bridges the gap between function and aesthetics.

What are you thoughts on the Diamond series?

Luxo 360 LED Lamp

If you are not familiar with Luxo, they are among the industry leaders in lighting. They have lighting solutions for any need, and are always looking to bridge the gap between functionality and efficiency. They have recently debuted their new 360 LED Lamp, designed by Stephan Copeland and it is absolutely stunning.

The 360 is equipped with a “fully flexible spring-balanced pivoting arm, rotating base and lamp head which stays parallel to the worksurface during use.” Also, the 360 leaves a small footprint with its aluminum construction and automatic shut-off after nine hours.

Our vision “controls” the position of 0ur body; we seek to obtain optimal viewing conditions, and we often will adopt an unhealthy posture in order to do so. Luxo was aware of this when designing their 360 LED Lamp, which produced a light that is simultaneously ergonomically friendly and functional.
